FSU player’s kindness sending young cancer patient to BCS title game


TAMPA — Tampa-Lutz native Mikey Scheerhorn will be playing in the BCS National Championship game in Pasadena on Jan. 6. And he’ll have a new fan cheering him on from the stands.   The Florida State offensive lineman is sending 12-year-old Jayden Laspada, a die-hard Seminoles fan, to the game.   “I’m so excited; I’ve never flown on a plane before,” Laspada said.   Laspada has been fighting a rare form of cancer since March. After her last round of chemo, she learned she won an essay contest through the Children’s Cancer Center in Tampa.   Mikey Scheerhorn provided part of his ticket allotment to her and her family. But he still had to raise money to make sure Laspada’s family didn’t have to worry about finances in Pasadena.….MORE
